A note to readers

The last few days this blog has been popping with accusations of racism and who is a real Democrat. I want to thank Mark and others who brought the issue of Jefferson and Jackson and the understanding of American History back to the forefront. The point of the post was to honor two great men and to help foster an understanding of the Democratic Party's rich legacy.

For over a century the South was the backbone of the Democratic Party. Today even the most Conservative Democrat has a hard time carrying parts of the rural South precisely because of the attitudes conveyed by some of the posters: the Democratic Party is seen by many across the nation as a party of dispirite interest groups who are trying to force a radical social agenda down the throats of an unwilling public. I do not share this view and in many cases actually agree with the views of the so-called special interest groups. However, if the Democratic Party is to ever govern and make a positive change for the American people, it is imperative that the party understand the views of the American public, and rather than belittle the electorate for being "stupid," and as some who posted implied "bigots and racists," we must understand where the American people are, and why they feel the way they do.

I respect all points of view, but do not appreciate those who preach diversity but fail to appreciate a diversity of views or allow for constructive debate. I am a lifelong Democrat and believe my ideology and point of view is far more representative of the rank file Democrat throughout Florida than that of the most radical posters on this weblog site. Thank you for your continued patronage and I hope everybody continues to enjoy the website.

The reason the Democrats lose is not because we are pulling too far to the left: it is because our self proclaimed leaders decry liberal thinking. I am confident that the majoirty of Americans are against all forms of discrimination and will vote Democrat in 2006.

No wonder I stay out of politics as best I can. I thought talk radio was bad! Kartik, please keep bringing us this blog and disregard the childish behavior of some posters. Many of us start our workdays checking out your site and we truly enjoy reading everything you write, even when we disagree. (See the Dolphins comments you made a week or so ago!)

It's funny how a lot of the folks who took Kartik to task for lavising praise on the accomplishments of Jefferson and Jackson posted as "anonymous." It is a sad commentary when one cannot celebrate the accomplishments of a public figure without getting blasted for a position that the person may have held. I'd like to think that I could laud President Roosevelt as a new deal Democrat and inspirational leader even though his WASPish, anti-jewish sentiments were manifested in his ambivolence over Nazi atrocities during the WWII period. Kartik -- keep up the good work and don't let those retarded posting get to you!

Others can continue to enjoy your website. For my part I am through. I had checked out this blog on the suggestion of a friend who had claimed it was a Democratic website, but that proved to be incorrect. Several other good Democrats have visited the site in the last few days and have been offended by the race baiting and gay baiting that goes on here, and will also no longer visit. The bashing of Moveon.org and Michael Moore is unacceptable. Kartik, you and your followers seem to use Michael Moore as a code word much the same way as FOX News does. I'm sure sometime next week we'll have a post about what a great man Robert E. Lee was and that Democrats should write off the gay vote for political reasons. The use of names such as Jefferson and Jackson is nothing short of race baiting. To quote the 1998 Almanac of American Politics, the 2nd Congressional District of Florida which is represented by Alan Boyd was according to the author "Jeffersonian and Segregationist." The two terms are complimentary and in fact represent essentially the same concept.

Those of us that you brand as intolerant are at the forefront of movement to truly make America a place where nobody has to face discrimination based on how they look or based on sexual orientation. The right to get married and have children is something that should apply to all citizens of this nation, not just to those with a particular sexual orientation. My suggestion to those of you who are hanging on to the past is to understand you now are living in 2005, not 1805 and it’s time to move on and respect the world we live in and the people who you meet and work with every single day.

I noticed that the two comments that mentioned "japs" instead of Japanese have been deleted by an administrator. It is about time. What took so long?

Well said.

Well I think we finally got those spam posters to stop. I'm glad they are so active in the party, but they shouldn't try and run everyone who disagrees with them away!

Lou -- I think the odds of you actually leaving this site, as you less than articulately state on a recent posting are quite slim. This is a fantastic DEMOCRATIC site and you know it.

I'll keep an eye on this site so I know what the right wing of the Party thinks.

You sir are yourself a racist to claim that the South is the bedrock of the Democratic Party. An area over run with the KKK and Aryan Nation is not an area we need.

I agree- we must stop these neocons, not neo conservatives, but neoconfederates from taking over our party.

You people are crazy. Go back to the Green party where you belong!

Hey Lou and his lefty friends,

Read a few books about the Democrats. Not Michael Moore's latest book - remember that jackass got Bush elected in 2000 - or anything by Dean, Huffington, and Franken (even though his stuff is hilarious), but books about real Democrats. Learn the history of the party before coming on this site and acting like an expert.

If after reading those books, you realize that your views are the same, then you probably want to join the Green Party. It would probably be a better fit for you and you'd be much happier.
