European Union member Austria dropped its "hold" on the start of negotiations between the European Union and Turkey about membership when Austrian ally Croatia was guaranteed an opportunity for EU membership in the "near future."
Turkey also was assured that Cyprus will not be admitted to NATO. Turkey is a NATO member.
